Gender Issues in the Nigerian Electoral Act

Currently the Federal Government of Nigeria is trying to review the Electoral Act, which is the document the guide electoral activities in Nigeria. There is a committee, which has two women as members. They have been to about two states now and they are presently in Oyo State South-West, Nigeria.

Political parties and Civil Society Organisations are raising so many issues. My organisation, Gender And Development Action (GADA) is women based organisation, which means we are concerned about the gender issues in the electoral act, especially as it has to do with representation in governance. We are advocating for more opportunities for women in governance, which can be achieved through finance whereby women are given financial support to be able to participate in politics.

There are more issues and this is what this discussion is all about. Please join me in looking at gender issues in the Nigerian Electoral Act.
