Gender Digital Divide in Africa

Gender and Technology is an interesting topic especially if you consider the gender gaps we are facing in African society. When technology got to Africa it was first and still given a masculine face. Women were not given the opportunity or rather some women did not deem it fit to "befriend' it. So some thought it is better left for the men to handle. I remeber my first ontact with a system, it was as if i cannot get through but with determination I decided to demystify it.
I think that is what all women should do!

Busola, I like your choice of word; 'demystify.' Incidentally it's one used when exploring the relationship between gender and technology.

And how apt it is! Much of the reporting on technology and new tools tend to focus on the 'hype' and the 'cool features', without emphasising how the ordinary (and usually not very techie) person can use it. This can give the impression that unless you have a core technology background or deep interest in gadgets, then you better keep away.

We need to cut through all that and analyse the tool for what it is and what it can do for us.
