Electoral violence

Electoral violence is one of the major resons women in Nigeria are reluctant about participation in politics especially as some of them are taken advantage of during the process of election. Different reports during the last general election in Nigeria explained this problem. For example in Osun state South-West Nigeria a female politician was seriously molested by the opposing party to the extent that she was hospitalised. Alot need to be done about security during election so as to encourage women to participate in this important development. Pls join me in discussing the solution to this problem!

Electoral Act

In continuation of my discussion on electoral act. Some other issues that need to be look into is the entrenchment of the affirmative action into the party leadership. It is noted that most of the political parties we have only allow women to be on the executive as "women leader" offcourse who do you expect tobe a woman leader if not a woman. This should be properly outlined in such that women can take part in other aspect apart from this role.
Citizenship is another problem women contend with when it comes to participation in political office. They are tossed up and down between their husband's state of origin and theirs. Women such as Tokunbo Awolowo, Remi Adiukwu Bakare and Hilda Funso-Williams went through the problem of indigeniety.
Pls join me in discussing this issues!

Gender Issues in the Nigerian Electoral Act

Currently the Federal Government of Nigeria is trying to review the Electoral Act, which is the document the guide electoral activities in Nigeria. There is a committee, which has two women as members. They have been to about two states now and they are presently in Oyo State South-West, Nigeria.

Political parties and Civil Society Organisations are raising so many issues. My organisation, Gender And Development Action (GADA) is women based organisation, which means we are concerned about the gender issues in the electoral act, especially as it has to do with representation in governance. We are advocating for more opportunities for women in governance, which can be achieved through finance whereby women are given financial support to be able to participate in politics.

There are more issues and this is what this discussion is all about. Please join me in looking at gender issues in the Nigerian Electoral Act.

Gender Digital Divide in Africa

Gender and Technology is an interesting topic especially if you consider the gender gaps we are facing in African society. When technology got to Africa it was first and still given a masculine face. Women were not given the opportunity or rather some women did not deem it fit to "befriend' it. So some thought it is better left for the men to handle. I remeber my first ontact with a system, it was as if i cannot get through but with determination I decided to demystify it.
I think that is what all women should do!

My name is Busola, as you can decode from the blog title, second child of the family. A graduate of the gratest University we have in Nigeria, offcourse I'm talking about the University of Lagos. (Eko fo show). I don't mind me I fell inlove with the University that both first and second Degree were at the University. You want to know what I read? HISTORY. Did I hear you say na wa o, well that is the way God designed it and I obeyed. Though I already had my stinct with journalism with a Diploma in Journalism to prove my interest in the noble profession of the fourth estate of the realm.

But the interest to see that development especially as it concerns women and the balance human rights between men and women drove me to a development organisation
